Those of we women who choose to go public with our mission on earth need to skill ourselves up for the task ahead. So I’ve joined a group to develop myself as a public speaker. The people were warm and welcoming, the structure of the evening was impressive and I learned stuff. However…

I gave an impromptu few minutes’ speech on what addition I would like to my body. Being a woman and multi-tasker I chose having an extra pair of arms and hands. During my explanation of why, one guy piped up that an extra pair would make me far more able to dust effectively.

Me, being me, I raised my hands in the sign of the cross at him. To which he replied, ‘I’m a chauvinist’, as if that excused his remark. Oh yes, I could have laughed at his ‘dusting’ comment and swept it under the carpet. Not me!

Women have been accepting belittlement and belittling themselves for ever. How are you going to help change the world when you tug your forelock to other people and other genders? We women have so much more to give the world than just dusting.

Maybe it’s time for you to get ready ready?  Toastmasters help develop your confidence in public speaking, at everything from an interview to an on stage experience. PLUS they aim to develop your leadership skills. What’s not to like?

And that guy? To be continued…
